12 itch Games on Steam Deck: A Backlog Testing Haul - Batbarian, Tails Noir & 10 More | Jun 30
Kia ora Everyone!
I thought I’d better show some love to our itch library. Between us we’ve got over 600 titles! I feel a bit bad, as I’ve got a bias against playing itch or Amazon games, but in reality there are some pretty cool games hiding in plain sight! This batch of random games proved just that. I’ll definitely be adding some to my backlog to play, and some I’ll keep installed as they’re fun and will be short to complete.
There was a decent mixed bag of games, from visual novels to puzzle games (just what I needed, more to add to my list) to a Vampire Survivors-style game.
Anyways, if you have any of these in your library, there are definitely some you really should try out!

These games have been sitting in the testing queue. Here’s how they performed:
We tested 12 games: 5 work out of the box and 7 need some setup.
This was an interesting point-and-click game. The intro and subsequent artwork gave me "Attack of the Killer Tomatoes" vibes, but with apples?! I might play this a bit more just to see how the story evolves. Hmmm, it's definitely one of the quirkiest games I've tested in recent memory.

This one's right up my alley if I'm honest, an audio-based mystery where you flick between radio stations to mess with a time loop and work out what's actually going on. Bit different to everything else in this batch and just the sort of thing I usually get into. Will definitely be coming back to this one for a proper go.

These "transported to another world" anime-style games just aren't my cup of tea, so this one was never really going to land with me. The plot didn't do much for me either: three high-schoolers get transported to another world, with one of them turned into a goblin. Yeah, nah, just not for me to be honest. There's a decent little adventure in there though if it sounds more like your sort of thing than mine.

If you like Vampire Survivors, Brotato, Jotunnslayer: Hordes of Hel, etc., then you should enjoy this one. It's not as flashy, more of a Matrix-like look, but it's the same idea: keep your weapon stocked, dodge and survive the waves of enemies, win the level to progress. Being an itch game, it's a simpler version of the ones I mentioned, but just as good and maybe a bit more difficult? Anyways, if you have this game I suggest you give it a go!

I really enjoyed this one and had to stop myself from 'testing' it for too long. If you like metroidvania exploration games, this one is pretty good, with added puzzle mechanics. It reminded me of Doomblade, Hollow Knight and Voidwrought, so definitely worth a shot if you enjoy those. This one's staying installed on my Steam Deck!

Participate in a game show, with a twist: the hosts are angels and you have to win before being in their presence causes you to expire. This was another strange one, but could be fun, and it's only very short at ~30 mins play time.

This one I knew I'd enjoy, as tile-matching games are one of my guilty pleasures haha! But it's more than just tile-matching: it also has a puzzle mechanic that needs some deduction (kind of like Minesweeper) to find the invading "hackers". This is another one that'll have a place on my Steam Deck.

If you played Blacksad: Under the Skin, this gives off a similar feel, a noir detective story with a cast of animal characters. You're a raccoon private eye working cases through a dark, run-down version of Vancouver. This was another one that just wasn't really my thing if I'm honest, but it looked great and ran straight out of the box, so worth a poke around if you're into noir detective games.

These ones are all visual novels, which aren’t really my thing, so I didn’t get far into them. They all tested fine though, so if you’re into story-heavy games, they’re worth a look.
That’s all for this testing update.
