Beacon Pines & Hiveswap Friendsim - Steam Deck Tested | Aug 8
Kia ora Everyone!
Still working my way through documentation for Eben, this time a user manual, and I have to go through the lot and add screenshots. It’s good though, because it means we’ll finally have something out there for you all to refer to for the cool stuff Junk Store Pro can do. No more wondering whether it can do something, or how, or where to go looking for the answer.
It’s time consuming, but it does mean I can get tutorials out to you faster, and that I’ll finally be able to start videoing how things work too. That’s another area we’re lacking in. There aren’t really any videos out there from anyone, but that’s all good, I’m kinda keen to try my hand at it.
Anyway, I’d better get back to reading this documentation so we can get it published for you. I actually ended up writing a tutorial for one of this week’s games, which was a bonus find, since it shows off something you might not have known Junk Store Pro can do so easily.

Epic Games Giveaway
This week featuring Beacon Pines, We Were Here Together.
An interesting one, this. You're reading a story and writing it at the same time, so as you move your character through the game you're also shaping what happens next. Looks like a chill, cozy game with a plot worth following.

Epic gave this one away back in December, and it still runs out of the box on both versions of Junk Store. No issues at all. You can see my original notes in the 30 December post, which covered a pile of games thanks to Epic's daily giveaways. It has also reminded me that I still need to get Eben to play through it with me.

This week featuring Hiveswap Friendsim, Right and Down.
This one needed a bit of setup before it would launch, so I wrote it up: How to Fix the NIL Path Error When a Game Won't Launch. Once that was sorted it ran without a hitch and had controller support. It reminded me of Stray Gods: The Roleplaying Musical, another visual novel with a similar look and feel. Not my cup of tea, but if that's your sort of thing and you liked Stray Gods, give it a go.

If you enjoyed Sol Cesto last week you'll probably like this one too. Same sort of thing: a dungeon crawler where you move across cards in one of two directions, right or down. I haven't got my head around all the mechanics yet, particularly using the things you pick up, but it's engaging enough that I'll give it more time over the weekend.

Next up on the free games front:
Epic Games: Just the one from Epic next week: Caravan SandWitch. I’m looking forward to this one. I’ve seen a fair bit about it online and it looks like my kind of game, so I can’t wait to test it.
Amazon Prime Gaming: Nothing announced yet, so we’ll have to wait and see what turns up. We’ll get them tested once they’re live.
For game-specific issues, feedback, or just a chat, you'll still find us on Discord or Reddit.
As always we hope you all have an awesome weekend,
Annie & Eben (aka The Junk Store Team)
