Between Time: Escape Room & Citizen Sleeper + 4 More - Steam Deck Tested | Jun 21

In case you missed it — catch up on recent testing

Kia ora Everyone!

Stop the presses! Eben and I actually had time and energy to play some games this week! One of our friends posted in our new Lemmy community asking when we last played anything, which we actually had to think long and hard about. Upon investigation of our last play times, we felt terrible and so got our act together. Eben played Cyberpunk and I clocked Tested on Humans: Escape Room. I even played an hour of Between Time: Escape Room (one of this week’s giveaways) too! I think Eben played two nights in a row as well, but that’ll probably do him for the next 3-4 months.

Other than finally playing on our Steam Decks instead of just working, not much else to report. As mentioned, we’ve got a new Lemmy community now, so come find us there if you prefer that platform to our current ones. Anyways, better get back to it before Eben thinks I’m slacking off work.

Epic Games Giveaway

This week featuring Citizen Sleeper, Robobeat.

Citizen Sleeper
Citizen Sleeper Epic

Still not 100% sure how I feel about this one. On my first test run I didn't really like it, to be honest. On my second run I got more into it, but the text-heavy gameplay kind of puts me off. It's also a bit too slow-paced for me, so it most likely won't be getting added to my backlog. But if you like narrative-focused, RPG-type games, then this is one you'll want to try out.

Robobeat Epic

At first this was another game where I was like, nah, whatever, I'll test it then move on to the next. Little did I know I would get sucked in like I did with Guitar Hero back in the day! I haven't played a game like this before, and I do like shooters, so having to shoot to a beat instead of just blasting away is new to me. Once I got the hang of it, it was actually quite fun. Next time I spin it up I might try importing a song to see how it plays, hahaha, now just to decide which song, hmmmm?

Amazon Prime Gaming

This week featuring Between Time: Escape Room, Space Grunts 2, Sugardew Island: Your Cozy Farm Shop, Wargame Construction Set III: Age of Rifles 1846-1905.

After finishing Tested on Humans: Escape Room this week, I couldn't wait to get my hands on this one! Needless to say, I was sucked in from the first puzzle. Luckily it was the last one I tested, as it turned into a game session instead. If you enjoy puzzles and a game you can pick up and put down, then this is one for you. I'm looking forward to getting back to it and revisiting previous giveaways 60 Minutes to Extinction: Escape Room and Palindrome Syndrome: Escape Room. I really do love these types of games!

Space Grunts 2
Space Grunts 2 GOG

If you enjoyed Space Grunts then you'll most likely enjoy the next installment. It's a little different, as it incorporates a deck-building system. I'm going to be honest, it threw me a bit at first, but after some testing I got the hang of it. Now, I usually enjoy deck-building games, but unfortunately I wasn't a fan of this one. I prefer the previous game's combat style, but I do recommend you give it a go, as it still has the same feel as Space Grunts, just with a bit of a twist.

Sugardew Island: Your Cozy Farm Shop
Sugardew Island: Your Cozy Farm Shop GOG

This was another game I wasn't sure of at first, but it grew on me the more I played. It reminded me of Oddsparks and Kamaeru in look and feel. It's a cozy farm shop game that gives you side quests helping out the local villagers. Normally I do enjoy these games, but maybe my concentration was focussed on testing the new Escape game. Worth a try if you like these cute, cozy sim games.

Wargame Construction Set III: Age of Rifles 1846-1905 GOG

This game is something more in Eben's taste, or my brother's. Think old school Total War type game, but focussing on the era of rifles. There are a range of battle scenarios to choose from, and the one I tested took place during the American Civil War. As it's a DOS game it only works on Junk Store Pro, just so you know. This one won't be making it onto my backlog or want-to-play list unfortunately, but maybe it'll make it onto Eben's.

Looking Forward

Next up on the free games front:

Epic Games: Epic’s got RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 Complete Edition and Voidwrought coming this week.

Amazon Prime Gaming: Amazon Prime Gaming has four more on the way. They’re giving an Epic code for Space Grunts: Chrono Shard, two on the Amazon Games App, Terraforming Mars and Lost Eidolons: Veil of the Witch, plus a Legacy Games code for Please Touch the Artwork. We’ll get these tested once they’re live.
