Airship: Kingdoms Adrift & Caravan SandWitch + 2 More - Steam Deck Tested | Aug 17

In case you missed it — catch up on recent testing

Kia ora Everyone!

If you missed the announcement, the Junk Store Pro user manual is now up on the website. So if there was something you were looking for, or you wanted to know whether Junk Store Pro could do a particular thing, it’s all documented now. The downside is that it’s already out of date with what Eben has been working on while I was reading through it and getting screenshots. Ah well, now it’s just a matter of keeping it current and using it to keep the tutorials up to date.

That leads into my next job: more documentation of a kind, updating the tutorials. I made a start on that yesterday, so I’m hoping to get the first of them up in the next day or so. I also recorded some videos that I need to edit and finish off so I can get those up too. The aim is to have a written guide and a matching video for everything, so you can use whichever suits you. It’s a big undertaking, so I’ll work my way through what I’ve already got written first, then move on to new guides.

Besides all that, we had more rain come in over the weekend, so it was an inside one here in NZ. It did bring a surprise though, we spotted a double rainbow and had to go out and admire it and take photos. Today’s the opposite, clear skies and sunny, so it’s looking like a good one. Mimi, our friends’ cat we’re looking after, has been keeping me company while I work, like she does most days.

Mimi, a calico cat, curled up asleep in a patch of sun on a purple blanket printed with cats and dogs
This is Mimi, isn't she cute.
A full double rainbow arcing over a street of single storey houses under grey cloud, the fainter second bow sitting outside the bright one
Whoa, double rainbow!

Epic Games Giveaway

This week featuring Caravan SandWitch.

Caravan SandWitch
Caravan SandWitch Epic

I'd been looking forward to testing this one and it didn't disappoint. It reminded me of Dredge, Fruitbus and A Short Hike, the sort of game that's easy to dip in and out of as the mood hits. I'll have to either make space on my Steam Deck or add it to the backlog, because it's definitely one I'll keep playing.

Pro: if you're using the new Epic client you'll need to type in an additional argument. Additional args: -PCStore=EGS

Amazon Prime Gaming

This week featuring Pyramids and Aliens: Escape Room, Steelrising and Airship: Kingdoms Adrift.

Pyramids and Aliens: Escape Room
Pyramids and Aliens: Escape Room GOG

This was a nice surprise. I've really enjoyed these escape room games, so I'm happy to have another one for the library. A guilty pleasure of mine is rewatching National Treasure, The Mummy and Indiana Jones, and I absolutely loved The Goonies growing up, so this game hit all my favourite things at once. I must be tired, because the first lot of puzzles took me longer than they should have, but I'll get back to it once I've caught up on sleep. Not one I want to leave unfinished.

Steelrising
Steelrising Epic

I was hooked from the start with this one. I've been playing a lot of puzzle games lately, and Sol Cesto has had my number since last week, so I was after a change of pace and this might have been the spark I needed. I was getting a bit bored with gaming, and here you're straight into fighting and searching for a way through the city. Smooth, engaging gameplay and a fun action RPG that's staying on my Steam Deck.

Airship: Kingdoms Adrift
Airship: Kingdoms Adrift Epic

This is one of those ones that isn't really my type of game. It worked out of the box with no issues though, the only thing being that you need to switch to keyboard and mouse, and maybe remap a few keys. If you enjoy strategy sims then give this one a go, but it won't be making it onto my backlog.

Looking Forward

Next up on the free games front:

Epic Games: Epic has one game and one bundle next week: Cardpocalypse, plus the Albion Online Epic Mage Bundle. Cardpocalypse looks like it could be just my kind of game. I do have a weakness for deckbuilders, and this one looks like a fun one.

Amazon Prime Gaming: Prime has a couple on the way as well: Royal Romances: Forbidden Magic, a Legacy Games title, and Spray Paint Simulator, which is an Epic game but links out to the developer’s own site. I think I’ll find that one oddly addictive, I seem to get stuck into most of the other sims. We’ll get them tested once they’re live.

Have you played any of this week’s giveaways? I’d love to know what you made of them, whether one of them surprised you, or if there’s something you’ve been playing. Come and tell us on Discord, Lemmy or Reddit.

Got a Junk Store problem? You can now open a ticket right in the Support Portal.
For game-specific issues, feedback, or just a chat, you'll still find us on Discord or Reddit.

As always we hope you had an awesome weekend,
